Hemingway House - Home To Great Stories & Six-toed Cats!

Located in the heart of Key West's Old Town, the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum ( is a very popular tourist destination. Hemingway lived and wrote several novels here for more than 10 years, including A Farewell to Arms.

The home is located across from the Key West Lighthouse, which they say helped Hemingway find his way home after late nights at the bars.

More than 60 cats still live at the house. Hemingway was given a "six-toed" cat by a ship's captain, and many of the cats that live on the grounds are descendants of that original cat.

"Papa," as Hemingway was called, was a character, and the stories about him, which you will hear on the tour, are truly one-of-a-kind. Key West still honors him with the Annual Hemingway Look-A-Like Contest held each July. While there, we had a wonderful tour guide who even looked like Hemingway!
