Submit Your Photo: Girls Getaway to Turk & Caicos
This month's Girlfriend Getaway photo was submitted by Ginya Carnahan
who was one of the lucky winner's from last year's 5th Annual '12 Days
til Christmas' Getaway Giveaway. She writes:
"We landed in Providenciales after a pleasant hour and 20 minute flight. The airport was tiny, but adequately equipped to perform the necessary customs functions before admitting us for our visit. A crowd of folks was equally anxious to claim their bags, grab a cab and get their vacation started.
When we arrived at The Ocean Club, everything was in order and the staff welcomed us with friendly smiles. 'Action Jackson' escorted us to our suite, a neat-as-a-pin, spacious unit facing the most amazing beach and cove of turquoise water I had ever seen. (I live in an area known for its beaches - but this one was truly exquisite!)
We ditched our city clothes, donned some shorts and headed for the Cabana Bar. Our flight schedules had precluded any lunch and we were hungry. Fish of the day - grouper caught that morning - was my choice and it was wonderful. Fueled and up for adventure, we hit the beach - just a few short steps from the Cabana Bar. I was mesmerized by the beach and the water - I hope that first vision of the beach will stay in my memory forever. Just in case it fades, I took more than 400 photos during our 4-day stay.
The trip was just what the doctor ordered. We slept late, indulged in some pampering, ate fabulous meals, shopped in the small stores and enjoyed each others company. We both brought Kindles and spent many pleasant hours by the pool or on the beach - reading with our eyes closed!
I wish to thank Casey and her Girls Getaway Guide organization for this amazing trip. And I encourage everyone out there to register for this year's 12-day Getaway Giveaway. I want to enter again, but will restrain myself. Someone else deserves to have a getaway experience like I did."

Family Getaway to ICE!
Brrr! Do you feel that chill in the air? It’s time to bundle up in those cozy winter coats, hats and scarves and slip on over to Central Florida’s coolest one-of-a-kind 9-degree Christmas attraction: ICE! featuring DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.’s “Merry Madagascar” at Gaylord Palms. Celebrating its 10th year, ICE! is more fun than ever, exhibiting more than 20,000 square feet of hand-carved ice sculptures made of 2 million pounds of ice — including four incredible two-story ice slides. The adventure began Nov. 10 for people of all ages, and is open seven days a week.
I had the opportunity to take my family on a 'getaway' to see ICE! On the trip: my brothers TJ & Marty, sister-in-law Merideth, nephews Maclyn (4) and Tommy (2.5), and niece/faux daughter Maura (1.5). We had a blast decorating at Gingy's, seeing the ICE! exhibit, telling Santa what's on our Christmas list, having breakfast with Shrek, seeing all of the characters from Merry Madagascar at the VIP Pool Party, visiting the Relache Spa (for the big girls), watching the alligator feeding and hanging out at the resort's arcade.
ICE! at Gaylord Palms is a can’t-miss event for everyone this Christmas season. Whether you’re looking for something to do during the afternoon to ignite the holiday spirit or you’re a thrill-seeker in search of your next daring adventure, ICE! is for you. Additional activities offered around the resort free of charge include a massive 54-foot tall majestic Christmas tree lighting; live stage shows, including the spirited Luminescence – featuring The Edge Effect Christmas show; and the Polar Bear Pursuit Scavenger Hunt.
However, the best way to benefit from all that Gaylord Palms has to offer is to book a room and become immersed in the splendor of Christmas. Guests seeking a complete Christmas experience can purchase special “Christmassy DreamWorks Experience” packages starting at $189.99 per room, per night (for a three night stay)! Packages include unlimited visits to ICE! and a number of other activities, including a ShrekFeast Interactive Character Meal, and more!
You may feel a chill in the air, but you’ll feel warmth in your heart as you create wonderful holiday memories that last a lifetime.
ICE! is open daily through Jan. 1, 2013, including holidays. Ticket prices for children start at $9.99, and adult ticket prices start at $18.99. Florida Residents — Save an extra $4 per ticket. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.christmasatgaylordpalms.com. ICE! is presented by Coca-Cola.
Gaylord Palms Resort is located five minutes from the gates of Walt Disney World at 6000 W. Osceola Parkway, Kissimmee, FL 34746. For more information, visit www.gaylordpalms.com or call 407-586-2000.

Dare to disregard the pizzazz of the penguins. Not to disappoint, we’ve also got something for those thrill-seekers searching for a way to make their indelible mark. Enter a room featuring the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, St. Basil and the sphinx and plummet down one of four massive ice slides!
A team of 40 talented artisans traveled from Harbin, China, to work meticulously for more than a month to slice and shave 6,000 blocks of colored and clear ice, each weighing approximately 400 pounds, to carve this incredible experience. To illuminate their craftsmanship, they froze more than 1,000 LED light tubes into the attraction.

ICE! at Gaylord Palms is a can’t-miss event for everyone this Christmas season. Whether you’re looking for something to do during the afternoon to ignite the holiday spirit or you’re a thrill-seeker in search of your next daring adventure, ICE! is for you. Cheers to Our "Weekend at the Waldorf"
The landmark Waldorf Astoria New York has been known as the epicenter of New York’s cultural, social and political life since it opened its famed doors in 1931. It is the preferred New York residence of heads-of-state, royalty, celebrities and corporate moguls, not to mention the New York home away from home for every sitting President since Herbert Hoover.
Not only was the hotel host to a slew of legends such as Marilyn Monroe, Cole Porter, and Frank Sinatra, it has also been the go to location for many major events throughout the years as it is home to New York City’s only four-story, two-tiered ballroom. Everything from Guy Lombardo’s annual New Year’s Eve Galas to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to the annual Peabody Awards have been celebrated in the Grand Ballroom. In addition, it is the New York City hotel of choice for movie press junkets with the ability to host numerous junkets at one time. Recent junkets include Friends with Kids, Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and The Dictator.
We were fortunate enough to spend a fabulous weekend at the Waldorf complete with an incredible suite in the Towers. High above Manhattan, on the upper floors of the Waldorf Astoria, exists a luxury Manhattan boutique hotel sure to satisfy the most discerning traveler. The Towers of the Waldorf Astoria New York marries impeccable service and opulent amenities with residential-style luxury hotel accommodations as legendary as the guests who have stayed within.
On our first night, we dined at The Bull and Bear Steakhouse, which is one of the most historic and well-recognized bars in New York City. This celebrated steakhouse offers signature chops with Prime Angus steaks as well as seafood. The next day we celebrated our 'Weekend at the Waldorf' with massages at the Guerlain Spa located on site at the Waldorf.
It was like stepping back in time as we enjoyed the history and luxury this hotel has to offer in this iconic city. Many thanks to the exceptional staff who went above and beyond to ensure our stay we memorable. And many thanks for the bubbly and festive welcome.
