The Prescott Jazz Society and Arcosanti (www.arcosanti.org) have formed a unique partnership that celebrates the very best of African-American artistic freedom and democracy in America by bringing local, regional, and national performers*artists, local businesses*and hotels in support of the 15th annual two-day (10 performance) PJAZZ Juneteenth Jazz Splash Festival and Ethnic Arts Fair. Guest artists include Richie Cole, a legendary alto sax player known worldwide http://richiecole.com/Richie_Cole/HOME.html), and Billy Mitchell, award-winning piano man with a sense of romance and groove (www.billy-mitchell.com), Harold Land Jr., Milt Cannon.

Traditionally, the Juneteenth celebration symbolizes the joy and the responsibility of a call to freedom for African-Americans. Yet, it is also a call to freedom for us all in that we have an opportunity and the responsibility to assist in developing a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable society. These values lie at the heart of the Arcosanti-urban village experiment and include the essence of living in harmonious relationship with our environment.

Vendors include some ‘down-home’ barbeque along with New Orleans style red beans and rice in the Arcosanti Café. Beer & wine are available in the Arcosanti Café as well. Displays include some astounding silver jeweler creations, African art pieces, baskets, masks, drums, hats, clothing, and incense.

Festival Hours are: 11am-11pm, Saturday & 11am-7pm, Sunday. The festival opening will start with a prayer by Minister Michael Cannon at 11am Saturday. Then a performance by the St. Luke’s Ebony Christian Church Praise Dancers will be followed by vocalists Ray and Marilyn Carter. After that, the schedule is non-stop entertainment until 11pm. Billy Mitchell will fire up the stage on Saturday. Pianist and son of jazz great, Harold Land Jr. will perform the Cabaret Show for VIP ticket holders. Richie Cole plays Saturday afternoon with Brian Messenger and the Adams Brothers, plus the Ron Hart & Gary Fitzgerald Duo. The traditional “Freedom Dance” starts at dusk under the Vault. Prescott’s own ‘Six Feet’ with Rick Cucuzzo performing their final engagement together will take the vault stage and light up the dance party with a movin’ groove to funk-fusion and lots of original compositions. And of course, the traditional ‘limbo contest’ will bring us the 2013 ‘low bar’ winner. Lots of fun, smiles, and beats for the feet.
