The Peabody hotels are well-known for the duck march ritual, and I was thrilled to be a part of this daily event during my stay at the hotel. Each morning, at 11:00 a.m., the five North American mallard ducks, four hens and one drake, comprising The Peabody Ducks, descend from their $100,000 penthouse Royal Duck Palace via a private elevator. The Peabody Ducks, accompanied by their crimson-and-gold- braid-jacketed Duck Master™, march through the lobby on a red carpet. They waddle their way through the hotel's marble halls and take center stage in the Atrium Lobby's fountain. At 5:00 p.m., the procession is reversed, and The Peabody Orlando Ducks march back to their special elevator, then to their Royal Duck Palace for dinner and a quiet evening together.Many thanks to Duckmaster Dave for the wonderful information he provided during my visit with the ducks.
