Welcome to Paradise!

Just arrived in Key West this morning after a red eye flight from Vegas. Although I am very tired, it is hard to ignore the fact that your entire attitude changes once you land on America's Southernmost property. This "Conch Republic" hosts some of the elaborate and unique events, including the wild and crazy Fantasy Fest. I'm here for Mini Lobster Season!

Every year, hundreds of people descend on the Florida Keys for mini lobster season, which is the last Wednesday and Thursday in July. For these two days, SCUBA and snorkel divers head out in Gulf waters to gather their lobsters (6 per person per day). We typically wake up around 4 or 5 a.m. and drive out to our spot in the dark. Once the sun comes up, we start diving. The lobsters have to be a certain length and must be measured in the water prior to removing the lobsters from the water. Stay tuned to see how we do.
